Student Support for Middle and High School
The Sibley East Schools are proud to offer many excellent academic and emotional support services and incentives to our students.
At the end of every quarter, all of the middle school students are invited to the gym for the quarterly academic pep fest. The pep fest includes games, activities, music and rewards (in a public manner) for all students who have received academic awards such as being named to the honor roll. In addition, students are recognized for outstanding attendance, participation in clubs and organizations, and for group awards such as the highest home room GPA.
Due to AVID’s success, a number of the program’s features have been embedded in Sibley East secondary classes, so all have some contact with AVID principles. Students who desire to fully participate in the program need to enroll in an AVID elective class through an application process. The spring of 8th grade is the application period for AVID 9. All students are welcome to apply. During the application period, upperclassman present information to the 8th graders about AVID and pass out applications. Students may also participate in AVID 10 and/or 11 by applying prior to those school years.

Wolverine Way
Wolverine Way takes place each afternoon at the middle school and high school. It is approximately a half hour in length.
During this period, students who need academic assistance of one kind or another are assigned to a specific teacher for help, ranging from remediation to retaking a quiz or test.
Students who do not need assistance sign up for a “class” or activity that they would like to attend. These classes, called “extensions”, can range from additional instruction above and beyond what the other stdents are learning in their classes to possibly something like current events challenges or maybe even an extra cooking class during the holiday season.
From a supervision standpoint, every student has a place to go and is expected to be in that place. Attendance is taken, although we find that students are present because they want to be there.
